Pharmalys CEO Marieme Ba Honoured as an IMPACT WOMAN at Alumni Day 2025

Oct 16, 2025 | Quality & Business Excellence

In September 2025, the Ecole Supérieure Polytechnique (ESP) Alumni community gathered at the Azalaï Hotel in Dakar, Senegal, to celebrate Alumni Day, a moment to recognise excellence, leadership, and contribution to society. Among the distinguished honourees was Marieme Ba, CEO and Founder of Pharmalys, who received an IMPACT WOMEN award.

The IMPACT WOMEN category shines a spotlight on alumni who exemplify commitment, leadership, and high-impact action in their fields. Marieme’s recognition reflects not only her achievements as an entrepreneur but also her transformative vision for health research in Africa.

A Leader in Science and Social Responsibility

Marieme founded Pharmalys with a clear mission: to bridge critical gaps and sustain quality in clinical research across Sub-Saharan Africa. In regions where underdeveloped research infrastructure limits progress and policy, Pharmalys has worked to strengthen systems, build capacity, and advocate for inclusivity.

For over a decade, the company has partnered with health authorities, ethics committees, universities, and non-profits to raise awareness, identify systemic gaps, and establish standards of excellence in clinical research across Africa.

Beyond its scientific achievements, Pharmalys is deeply rooted in social responsibility. Under Marieme’s leadership, the company creates opportunities for young African professionals to build careers at home, helping to strengthen local expertise. Marieme is also a committed mentor to young women pursuing careers in science and a strong advocate for women’s education and health. Within Pharmalys, she has created a culture of well-being, ensuring there is a healthy balance between professional growth and personal life.

Building the Next Generation of Researchers

One of Pharmalys’ initiatives is the Pharmalys Academy of Clinical research Excellence (PACE). Launched to address the shortage of skilled professionals in the clinical research sector, PACE provides structured training and internships for young science graduates as well as apprenticeships for professionals already in the field.

In 2024, the first cohort of graduates completed the programme, with many securing positions at Pharmalys and earning promotions soon after. This investment in talent development is part of Marieme’s long-term vision: to ensure Africa not only participates in but also leads global health research efforts.

An Award That Reflects a Larger Mission

Receiving the IMPACT WOMEN award is a testament to Marieme’s belief that leadership is about creating opportunity, empowering others, and driving lasting change. Under her guidance, Pharmalys continues to show that business can thrive while delivering social value, redefining what corporate social responsibility means in practice.

As the Alumni Day ceremony highlighted, Marieme’s journey is an inspiration to many: proof that science, leadership, and vision can come together to make a real difference.
